Impression of Autumn

I found this patch of woodlands near Highlands, North Carolina in late October, and it reminded me of an impressionist painting by Monet.

November at Hagood Mill

Pickens, South Carolina Shooting into a heavily wooded area can sometimes create a compositional challenge for photographers. In this scene, however, I found what I was looking for— the vertical interest of the neutral trees, contrasting with the more diffuse, warm and cool colors of autumn.

November Canopy

While walking through a wooded area of the South Carolina Botanical Gardens in late November, the foliage in the overhead canopy seemed like giant flames of red and orange.

Old Log House

This is an old, restored log cabin known as the Hunt Cabin, which is located in a wooded area of the South Carolina Botanical Gardens in Clemson, South Carolina.

Autumn Abstract

I love the abstract compositions of nature, especially those found by looking up and seeing the tree canopies against the blue sky. This image was made during the last week of November, when many of the autumn leaves had already fallen, there creating windows to the sky.

After the Rain

While out to photograph an old historic structure, I became more fascinated by the abstract beauty of this tree, the colors of which had been deepened and enriched by early morning rain.
